You will start the day with a spectacular drive along the Mount Lovcen Pass giving you the most stunning views over the most beautiful bay in the Mediterranean. The road continues to Njegusi mountain village u we will continue towards Lovcen, where you will be able to visit the mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegos. Mausoleum is located on height of 1660 m , on the top of Mount Lovcen, which towers above the Bay of Kotor. The Lovcen Pass at around 1000 metres affords spectacular views of the UNESCO protected inner bay, seemingly just a stone’s throw away. The Mausoleum is reached by 461 stone steps and gives commanding views of the northern mountain ranges, Skadar Lake and Albania.
On our way back we will stop at the Village of Njegusi where in 1813 Petar II Petrovic Njegusi was born,he was also a famous poet and philosopher. During his rule he was able to persuade the local clans to introduce fair taxation and also laws regarding human rights. To this day he is regarded as one of the most important people from Montenegro.
The village of Njegusi is famous for its smoked ham or prosciutto (Njeguski prsut), flat bread (Lepinja) and cheese (Njeguski Sir). Here we will visit our friends family owned smoke house where you will have a meal of our local specialties, including local wine and brandy (know as Loza or Rakija).
We will return via Kotor’s stunning serpentine road with plenty of photo opportunities once in Kotor you will have a city tour of this UNESCO protected old town.
