“Blue caves, beach and old city of Kotor”
Reviewed October 5, 2015NEW
We had limited time and arrived early, which wasn't ideal with wanting water time! We took the little speed boat to the Blue caves, which is just one cave, but pretty cool to see! It had bats and you could see the bottom. We were the only ones in there, soI jumped out for a swim! We also saw one of the old submarine garages from the cold war...cool and pretty creepy. We went to a rocky beach area and the kids had time to play in the beautiful clear water. (Bring water shoes for your feet) We went around the two little islands and did a quick tour of the beautiful old city of Kotor. Our only wish was that our ship docked later in the day so it could have warmed up more for water play! P.S. our kids were ages 6&8 and they loved it all.Visited October 2015
“Liset made our visit to Kotor, Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks a special day”
Reviewed October 7, 2015NEW
Liset whisked us away to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks immediately after leaving our ship. What a great plan. By leaving early we had Our Lady of the Rocks almost to ourselves as we learned about its construction and long history of miracles for mariners. The displays of artifacts and gifts from grateful survivors of sea mishaps are fascinating and touching. In Perast she explained the complications of property ownership passing from ancient families to the state and back to descendants of the original owners. In Kotor proper we visited the cathedral and maritime museum and wandered the narrow streets. She explained the repeated damage by major earthquakes in 1600's and more recently and how it shapes the present day Kotor. She talked proudly of Montenegro's great progress in barely ten years as a newly independent nation. As we parted, she made dinner reservations for us in an outstanding waterside restaurant and encouraged us to try the climb up Kotor's ancient walls. All the way to the top or just high enough to see the lovely harbor that once hosted pirates - both were great ways to end a great day.

We loved our tour with Liset in Kotor! It was the best part of our trip.
Liset was a wonderful host to this stunningly beautiful place. She was extremely accommodating to our changing dates and indecision on which tour to take. In the end we chose to do the boat tour from Kotor to Our Lady of the Rocks church, the town of Perest and then back to the Old Town in Kotor.
We came off our cruise ship and Liset was right there and within a minute of getting off the ship we were on our boat and off on our tour. Anyone who has tried to organize a tour off a cruise ship will know how awesome this was to not waste any time waiting. The boat was great for our group of 12 - nice, spacious and covered. Liset was very personable and told us all about the area, the history of Montenegro and interesting stories as were immersed in the gorgeous scenery on a beautiful day. The Old Lady of the Rocks was the most interesting church I have ever visited. The stories, historical artifacts and sheer beauty made this a most memorable stop. After stopping in the quaint little town of Perest for a drink and a bite to eat, we went into the middle of bay and all the kids spent some time jumping into the water. It was an incredible afternoon. We had a great tour and could have ended it there but then we visited the Old Town. What a hidden gem! We were pressed for time but Liset gave us a quick tour of the town. My advice to everyone is to leave enough time for the Old Town.We had to get back to the cruise ship, but I wished we had more time. It is a very pretty old town that is steeped in history and beautiful buildings with nice shops and restaurants as well. We left our day with Liset taking about making plans to come back and spend more time in this amazing part of the world.Visited September 2015

Liset's explanations made it so interesting. She took us to a fabulous place for lunch in Kotor, and showed us the highlights of Kotor , Budva, and the surrounding area. The highlight of our trip was a stop in Kotor, Montenegro where I had search TripAdvisor for the perfect tour guide and host for a day of sightseeing and relaxation. Liset met our ship at the dock and whisked us away in a private speed boat for an amazing day! She organized a beautiful meal on the water in Perast, visited Our Lady of the Rocks, a private wine tasting in Kotor and capped it off with a private dinner before departure. Have to say, though, the highlight of the trip was a swim in the Aegean Sea during our private boat excursion.

Since it was in a cove on a pebbly beach, we were also able to swim in the Aegean Sea. What a hoot. The tour guide Jen, took us back to Kotor, bought us tickets for the city visit and gave our group of 14 a guided tour of the walled city. Our day began when we were met by Liset at the tender dock in Kotor. Her smile and enthusiasm assured us that we had made a good decision booking our day excursion with her. We took a very short walk and hopped into a waiting speedboat to take us to Our Lady of the Rocks. Tino our captain was excellent! We were on our way before most of the passengers were even off our cruise ship. We arrived at the spectacular man made island in no time at all and NO CROWDS! Liset was able to take her time explaining the fascinating history of this magical island. The views are spectacular from this vantage point. Do not miss this stop! After some time on this tiny island, we hopped back in our speedboat to the lovely village of Persat. Tino dropped us off so we could stroll along the water's edge and listen to Liset's interesting commentary about the area. We met our captain after our stroll and sped off to meet our driver, Nero for a lovely ride to Budva. This is the best kept secret in the Mediterranean...although the word is spreading! It is a beautiful walled city, with modern touches. Liset explained the history of Budva as we wandered it's narrow streets. We stopped for some fabulous local pastries and truly enjoyed the locals! Once we finished in Budva, Nero expertly drove us back to Kotor, stopping along the way for scenic views and picture taking, while Liset explained what we were seeing! She is so interesting and informed! We couldn't have asked for a better guide to share the beauty of Montenegro. Upon arriving back at Kotor, Liset showed us a few beautiful churches filled with treasures and explained the walled city's history in a most interesting manner! We highly recommend Liset if you are going to spend some time at the Bay of Kotor. She will bring the area to life for you, help you see things you would miss if you wandered around on your own. Thanks to her helpful suggestions while planning our excursion we were able to see so much more than we ever could have on our own or with a large group tour offered by the cruise line. Liset was an excellent guide, taking us to several points of interest and sights along the Bay of Kotor, including a boat trip over to Our Lady of the Rocks in the middle of the bay. This stop was very interesting and beautiful, and Liset was able to explain the history of the location very well as she led us through the island and church. The views throughout this region are spectacular.
Liset knew of some excellent overlook points to take stunning pictures. We made many of these types of stops, and our memories of this tour will be magnified by the beautiful scenery we’re able to keep in photos.
Liset was also able to fit in many historical stops without us feeling rushed and insured that we were able to get everything we needed, including shopping and a food stop. For lunch, she walked us to an excellent restaurant in old town Budva. The food was good, and they even gave us a 10 percent discount.
The old towns in both Budva and Kotor are fascinating, but do know that there will be quite a bit of walking on some uneven ground. We very much enjoyed this excursion during our cruise stop here, but we were traveling with my wife’s mother, and she had some difficulty with the walking.
Overall, we had a most excellent day with Liset exploring the Bay of Kotor, and we would highly recommend this tour if you are planning a cruise stop or a visit to this area.

We hired a car and picked Liset up over the border (no-fuss border, BTW) and she guided us around for about 12 hours and fitted in more than you could reasonably expect - the full rim of Bay of Kotor, including Perast and a ferry out to the Lady of the Rocks, Kotor itself (mind-blowing), the Mausoleum in the mountains above Kotor where you can see 5 countries (Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Italy) - what a spectacular ascent, the ancient capital (Cetinje), the coast (Budva, its old town, Sveti Stefan) and a ferry ride across the Bay. It's about 300km if you see everything, and we were back in Dubrovnilk for a 9pm dinner at Dubrovnik Restaurant (very good for reference).
Liset is very smart, articulate and knowledgeable, and the first person to give us a relatively non-partisan overview of the conflicts in the area from the 1980s. She's also delightful, and you'll have a fun day with her.

After this we stopped in Cetinje to see the museum of King Nikola and the monastery. On our way out of the town, we got some local coffee (similar to Turkish coffee in that you have to avoid the sediments). After visiting Cetinje, we passed through the ritzy beach town of Budva, which looked like it would be a great place to visit at night. She took us on a speedboat (Bayliner) across the Bay of Kotor to our Lady of the Rock where she told us the haertwarming story of this man made island. We then proceeded to Perast where we strolled around and had some coffee in the sunshine. When speeding back to Kotor we even saw wild dolphins in the bay!
Upon return we were picked up by a brandnew Mercedes Benz minivan and continued our tour with a photo stop at Sveti Stefan and a walk around Budva. Here we had the chance to enjoy fresh seafood in a very nice place by the promenade.
Finally we returned to Kotor and walked through this as well.
What made this tour special?
We were a family with two 80-year-old parents. Liset took good care of everybody, she matched the speed to that of the eldest in our family. She always realised what would be interesting for us before we were even aware of it. She made this tour a perfect mix of information, walking and just taking in the general atmospere.
We came across a couple of the groups that were following a guide from the ship - we thanked our fate that we were not part of those groups.
Liset is knowledgeable, charming and simply a really nice person!
We wil be back in Kotor and we will make sure to book another tour with her.
One final remark: Liset asked me to transfer the money for the tour beforehand because she needed to book and pay the boat and the minivan to make sure they would be in time. I was a little worried because you hear so much of internet fraud these days.
However, there was no need to worry at all, please do not let this keep you from booking a tour with Liset!

“Wonderful day in Montenegro with Liset of Kotor Private Tours”
Reviewed July 14, 2014
When we were looking for a day excursion from our cruise ship in Kotor, Montenegro we were lucky enough to come across some excellent references for Liset Rios de Kuhar, in Kotor. We were not disappointed. She met that's the ship and and immediately took us to a small speedboat where we had an excellent ride out to the island of Our Lady of the Rock, visiting its beautiful catholic church, and museum. Then we took our boat to Perast and explored this wonderful town. We then took the boat back to Kotor where we were able to leisurely explore the old town. We had a nice meal and time to wander and shop, prior to returning to our cruise ship. Liset was a wonderful hostess and tour guide. She has excellent knowledge of the area and her English is wonderful. I would highly recommend Liset and her company for any time in Montenegro.

“amazing area one of the highlights of our life”
Liset Rios De Kuhar, of private tours Kotor is amazing. She was extremely thorough, fun outgoing personality, and we were able to arrange payment ahead of our arrival. Liset was right at the dock, and affable, there was no area of Kotor that we did not visit from lady of the rock to all towns around Kotor, to a superb walking tour (even in a deluge of rain that lasted all day)
Liset is extremely knowledgeable and I highly recommend her. Even stopped for libation, and she was extremely patient, photo conscious, and excellent private tour with a driver so she could visit with us continuously

“Private guides are the best way to really get to know a country”
We spent a day visiting Montenegro on a recent cruise and because of the wonderful services of Liset. it was by far the highlight of our trip. Liset could not have responded more promptly to all of my many queries and because we were a group of nine there was a lot of changes. She was extremely flexible and fantastic in everyway. Unfortunately she could not guide us herself as another group from the cruise booked her first but the guide that she gave us was absolutely wonderful and I am using the same agency when I happen to be going to Kotor again this August

Liset Rios ([email protected] ) gave us the best tour of our entire cruise. We told her that she had set the bar too high for all subsequent tours and we were correct. She navigated us off the ship early and took us to the attractions that would become filled with cruise passengers early so we were leaving and they were arriving. My husband an I are committed to private tours off cruise ships since we hate large crowds. Liset gave us her all for an entire day and I believe everyone on our tour was ready to go back to the ship when the time came. Many tours whisk you around so fast that you don't have time to stop and enjoy anything. Liset made certain that our needs were met and tailored this shore excursion to our groups needs. Our driver was very sweet and he bought us all a little souvenir magnet and gave it to us at the end of our trip. The last part of our tour was in Kotor itself with a walk around the town and explanations of the history by Liset. Her English is flawless so there is no straining to understand what she is trying to explain. I can't recommend her enough for a great day in Kotor or the surrounding area. She was great to communicate with and make certain that our tour was customized to our liking. You will love your day with her.

“EXCELLENT SHORE EXCURSION”
By Leslie - Reviewed March 10, 2014
A couple of friends and us sailed into this gorgeous Bay with Celebrity, last July. Our guide Liset greeted us at the dock and we were off to start our half day shore excursion of the Bay. A van parked just minutes away from the Port was waiting for us. Perast was the first part of the visit was very smart decisition, July is a crazy busy time in Montenegro and we had a head start from the crowds . Our first visit was to Our Lady of the Rock, just a quick boat ride across from the lovely small town of Perast and it was just gorgeous!!! Liset pointed out details and facts of Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor, which was really interesting, that needle work from the lady at the church was so romantic I still remember it. A wonderful church with an amazing history then we had some leisure time in Perast for refreshments, Liset took us to the pirate bar beach and we had a quick swim to cool down from the hot summer days. We continued to Kotor for our walking tour and work up the appetite, Kotor is a lovely small town, the styles and architecture just beautiful, we visited the Catholic Cathedral some churches, the Maritime museum Liset share the history of this beautiful town, family palaces and customs of the people, and advised us on some shops we could visit for souvenirs at the end our our tour. Our visit was excellent! Liset showed us Montenegro through her eyes , she just loves this place but has a clear insight of both past actual facts. She lived in the US, so her English is great, we loved her approach to the tour very fresh and meaningful at the same time. We are glad we hired her services, if you are planning to visit the beautiful Bay and want to have somebody taking care of your visit, I highly recommend her. I am sure she will be guiding and making friends along the way.

“Great day and great tour guide, Liset, in Kotor Montenegro.”
By Joanna - Reviewed January 21, 2014
We arrived in the lovely Bay of Kotor, Montenegro via Equinox in September last year. We were met by Liset our guide guide at the dock and were off on our full day shore excursion. We were escorted to our Van, parked just minutes away from the Port. Liset advised us to start the day visiting Perast which gave us a head start on the crowds coming from the cruise and gave her some time to introduce Montenegro to us.
Our first visit was Our Lady of the Rock, across from Perast and yes It was a great idea!! Seeing it with a tour guide was made so much sense, Liset pointed out details that I am sure we would have missed out, if we went on our own. A wonderful church with an amazing history we had some refreshments in Perast and continued to Kotor, We began our walking tour of The Old Town of Kotor and entered in through the Sea Gate entrance, after having a walk through the fresh market where we saw a few interesting local produce like prosciutto and Oil cheese, tasty!
We strolled through this wonderful UNESCO site for about an hour and half visiting, churches, the Maritime museum and some local stores Liset pointed out some of the more "local" stores to visit later and talked about the history of this beautiful town and made our late lunch reservation in the beautiful terrace of Montecristo, her friend’s restaurant located in the middle of the town great choice!
From there we met our driver, for our next stop in Budva, before arriving in the Old town we continue towards Sveti Stefan to take some panoramic shoots of Sveti Stefan, I’m so happy we stopped there, the sightseeing is just marvelous. Again we wouldn’t have driven there without a guide. From there we drove towards Budva were our walking tour begin, small but beautiful town, with a lot of history, great sightseeing but a bit to crowded for our taste, Liset was very nice, she had a real appreciation of Montenegro both in history and in the modern issues, she is aware of the issues affecting the country and the region and her perspective as a local/expat is spot on. I’m glad we had her during our visit and if you decide to have a tour guide during your I highly recommend her, my fiancé friends and I had an amazing time. Her email is [email protected] and I am sure she will continue guiding, she was great! Montenegro was the highlight of our cruise.
